Judi Mirac

/biography

Judi studied textiles at Swansea College of Art & after qualifying joined the staff at the Royal School of Needlework, London, working on the Overlord Tapestries and restoring tapestries from stately homes.

In 1991 she moved to Cape Town where she established her studio & became actively involved in workshops, further education & outreach programmes. 

Her teaching projects were diverse in nature, one project involved living & working with the San for 1 month creating a large textile for the entrance of the San Cultural Centre. 

Judi ran workshops at South African Fashion Week, Johannesburg, was employed as external lecturer at the University of Cape Town, the School of Interior Design, & the Fashion School, Cape Town.

She was  involved with the South African National Gallery assisting with the conservation of their textiles & running workshops for the National Gallery Education Department.

Upon her return to the U.K. Judi was invited by the Victoria & Albert Museum to partake in the Symposium: Dress & the African Diaspora ~ Tensions & Flows & present her work.

Images of her textiles were used as the lighting projections for the Ethiopiques concert at the Barbican Centre, London.

Judi was lead artist for the northern arts summer project Find your Talent.

She has since qualified in Holistic Design, how creativity & colour can enhance health & wellbeing.

Judi is also featured on the Craft Council Directory.
